The first end we led 1 : 0 a good start seeing what we were up against ;-) After that our main aim was to keep the opposition, especially their skip Colin, from scoring large numbers. We did this successfully. We seemed to always be holding until Colin’s turn. So gradually the score crept up by 1 point at a time for ManU. We all played really well, and it was an enjoyable match right to the very end when our skip Martin put in a bowl which gave us 2 points!

We started brightly, leading 4-2 after five ends, then had the expected reverses against a very good team. But we ended on a high note with a 4 which took us into double figures, and the opponents were fun to play against, despite the final score.

This is against the team that beat us 35-3 last Thursday so it came as no surprise when we dropped 6 points in the 4th end. We thought "here we go again !" but gradually we began to trade shot for shot helped by a conversion from 6 down to 1 up by Peter! Wendy R began to out bowl their lead and Martin was playng a steady game at No 2 . Peter made some good points stealing some ends and turned 1 up to 4 up on the last end. A loss 17-19 but an exciting & enjoyable game where we all contributed vital points.

Depression city ;-( We would have lost by more if Reading’s Skip had not collapsed and been taken away by ambulance in the last end. He was determined to rob us of one of the only ends where we were holding.

A slow start, but by the 12th end we were winning 11 : 10 !! Neck ‘n neck up until the 14th end when we lost two ends, 5 points each. After that it was impossible to catch up. We (Irene, Wendy, Peter) all had moments of glory ;-)

Once again we were slow to get scoring and went 18-3 down. Then we all got in the zone scoring 8 points in the last 7 ends but alas too late.

We started slowly as usual and were soon 10 nil down. We slowly clawed our way back and at the final end needed 3 to tie. Mike put one close and Martin ,our skip, put 2 of his last 3 closer still. Their skip went close with his last wood but not close enough so it`s 1 point to us.

The new strategy of starting slowly worked brilliantly. They were 6-0 up, then 8-2. We came back slowly and then pulled ahead. Peter and Wendy P. played steadily, and Mike had his usual flashes of brilliance, none better than when we had been stuck on 13 for three ends and they threatened to overtake us at this point. Mike somehow managed to first of all get shot wood, then, with his last wood, move the cott and his wood onto three others, taking us safely to 17. However, coming from behind isn't obligatory; staying in front all the way is good too.

We were up against a formidable team - Ian, Gwen and Graham. Burt was in fine form with 3 bowls at the jack quite often, only to be bowled out by Gwen. We valiently tried to keep the score down.

A result we really needed as Liverpool are the only team currently below us. This time, we started slowly but picked up later. Perhaps this should be our new strategy! Wendy R hadn't played for at least six weeks but was an excellent lead. Peter did very well as skip, particularly on one end when, with his last shot, he dislodged the opposition's winning wood, and took the cott away to score FOUR for us. Wendy P was her usual inconsistent self, but was pleased that she had occasionally contributed to the score.

Manchester United again! Surely playing them once was enough;-) True to form, we started off well and the score was even at 4:4:4. But, then they started to take the points, with one point here, and two points there and before you know it they got to 24. We fought bravely to keep them from getting any large numbers of shots. Well done us, but more well done them!

We would have you know that the score did not reflect the quality of the efforts of the Spurs team. We fought a good fight, often holding shots on the cross-over, but the Man U skip was deadly, either taking shot or killing the end, generally with his first wood. But it's all good experience.

We took on the big guns, Janet, Lizzie and Dot. Suprisingly we were neck ‘n neck up to end 10 : the score was 10:10. And after this we were actually ahead. Reading were getting worried and working on Plan B strategies. Mike fired off 2 dead ends. This flustered them more. However, a 5 shot winning end put them ahead and after that, well you know the story!

Reading were last year's Summer League winners, and we were playing against Dot and Maurice Rolph and Janet. We started slowly, but Jacqui then converted 5 shots to them to 1 for us, and this inspired us to draw much closer to their score. Unfortunately, they overwhelmed us in the last few ends. Enjoyable, friendly match, however.

Margaret, Betty and Maurice were a formidable team! Again we lost an end by 7 shots! We fought back valiantly scoring both 4 and 5 shot ends! Taking the right amount of green seemed to be very hard to get right on Rink 2! Mike promised to bring a laser level next time to check out the slope of the rink ;-)

We won - hurrah! Wendy had a good contest with Hull's lead, Terry, and she came out on top. Mick was at his best and 'bested' their No.2 Ian. Which made life easier for me than for Hull's skip Grahham. Hull were a very friendly team to play against, it is a pity that all our games against them have happened one game after another.

This was a tight match from start to finish. Scores were even most ends. Some lovely shots by all three team members. Some memorable saves by Martin (5 points down to 1). The last end we were leading by 2 and the pressure got the better of us ;-( A very satisfying match!

Not the most brilliant start to the season, however we all had our moments of glory. The opposition got well ahead after an end of 7 points. Otherwise they were only beating us by 1 or 2 points an end. Well done team! It was an enjoyable match.
